Outside the Inner Circle

Outside the Inner Circle

Spinning the wheel, we sit in a neutral position.
Not falling backwards, neither advancing forward.
Standing outside the inner circle we stare at the clock.
We have been enjoying the sunshine for too long.
We’ve gotten sunburned by reality.
And it hit us all at once.

We’ll have to depart soon.
The thought of moving makes our breath become hitched.
Little stones thrown at the back of our heads.
Reminding us that we can’t stand here forever.
It sucks we can’t.
Poetic words can’t express it any other way, it just…

Sucks.

We hoped to discover our dreams before this.

But we never ventured towards the idea that we may never find them.
We never settled on the thought that the world would not wait for us to be ready.
The world will push us off this cliff.
And the big birds of this sky will either watch us fly or fall.
And so many have fallen before us they don’t mind seeing the splatter.

Chasing down our fears.
We want to lock them in a box and throw it into an ocean.
Into an ocean where the floor is so deep it’ll never be retrieved.
We need to find our scheming demons,
and pull them out from the corners they hide in.
We need to grow up.

We have done what we wanted.
We have lived life wearing the color carefree.
We have been clueless for far too long
and now we must take a step into that inner circle.
But it’s so hard because we know that…
we will never be younger than this moment here.

They expect us to fly even though they haven’t taught us how.
They want us to succeed in a certain way
but they forget that some of us don’t even know what the word “success” means.
They fill our brains with propaganda and certain instructions.
To create a greater world than the now.
But how can we live the way we need if they force us to believe that today is the way?

So we sit in a neutral position, spinning the wheel,
Not falling backwards, neither advancing forward.
We stand outside the inner circle and we stare at the clock.
We have now been enjoying the sunshine for too long.
We are now sunburned by reality.
And it’s hitting us all at once.
